Artist Statement

I am an abstract artist based in Culver City, California. I grew up in Venice Beach during the golden age of Hip Hop and was immersed in the music, fashion and styles of the day. Needless to say Graffiti art was my initial language and foray into the artworld, and even though I’m not a writer, it has informed my work to this day. I don’t use spray cans but many of my paintings contain continuous swoops and lines that mimic letters and symbols. I also incorporate a lot of colorful pastels and oil sticks in my works, much as a tagger would at a bus bench.

I’ve always been attracted to spontaneity and improvisation in art forms and I strive to create work that is free and made “in the moment.” My work often vacillates between dynamic gestural marks, lines and shapes to tighter more controlled and orderly aspects. The perfect balance between order and chaos is something I’m
constantly striving to achieve.
