Artist Statement

Kurt Weston is an award winning, legally blind photographer whose work has been exhibited internationally and is in the permanent collection of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Photography. Weston received his MFA from California State University, Fullerton in 2008. His surreal iconic landscapes are photographed in luscious black and white and are an exploration of hope, trust, and the human capacity to find meaning and purpose through religion, spirituality and faith. Kurt offers a unique perspective on how, in our current era, the importance of belief cannot be overstated. Weston’s photographs represent how powerful, deeply ingrained and universally significant beliefs are to humanity.
Weston utilizes the technique of the Chiaroscuro aesthetic with the use of luminous light which appears to emanate from his photographs. Working in a unique narrative style, Kurt’s sublime images create, for some, an almost religious viewing experience.

Kurt Weston is an award winning legally blind photographer. He received his MFA degree from California State University, Fullerton in 2008. Weston’s work has been exhibited internationally and is in the permanent collection of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Photography. Weston, also was the recipient of the 2010 Arts Orange County Outstanding Artist Achievement Award which garnered him an interview on CNN for his art and advocacy. Weston’s work has spawned art exhibitions, interviews and articles. He has been featured in numerous newspapers,magazines and blogs and his work has been the subject of many academic abstracts and doctoral dissertations.
