Artist Statement

Using an iconography of nostalgic Americana, his art explores our connection to a bittersweet world of lost mythologies and faded reverie. Influenced by Pop, Expressionism, and the Surrealists, Flake’s paintings can be characterized as having a rich impasto of color and black and white mixed with earth tones. The paintings are
often paired with sculptural works in wood, plaster, resin, concrete, or soap.
