Artist Statement

My work explores the emotional depth and complexity of the human experience through a variety of styles and mediums. Whether working in high-contrast black and white portraits, vibrant acrylic layers, or textured abstract forms, my art reflects hidden emotions, untold stories, and the balance between light and shadow. Transitioning from prisma color pencils to acrylic paints gave me the freedom to experiment with texture, layering, and dynamic contrasts, allowing for greater depth and dimension in my pieces. Each work flows intuitively, focusing on themes of identity, transformation, and emotional resonance. My goal is to invite viewers to connect with the art on a personal level, interpreting its meaning through their own
experiences, memories, and perspectives.

Artist Biography

Melinda Lowry Anter (MELA) grew up in Utah and Colorado and currently lives in Florida with her husband.
Her passion for art began when she was young as she discovered a love for animals and spent hours drawing them. She continued this obsession in college where she studied Illustration at Brigham Young University and Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Salt Lake City, Utah.Her work follows a path of self-discovery, from realism to abstract, pencils to painting, photography to graphic design. Honing skills acquired over the years, she continues to follow her inspiration and creates paintings that take the viewer along with her on a journey of art to see things in a way they haven’t been seen before.
