Artist Statement

I consider myself a visual composer on an artistic journey reminiscent of jazz pioneers in the 50’s on a pursuit of mastery. “Art is either plagiarism or revolution,” Paul Gaugin, which resonates with my creative spirit, the same creative spirit that I had as a child living in a creative bubble with stars in my eyes to imagine a new universe, designed by my mind and touched by my hands alone.
I produce work in a few bodies, the first titled, A Dope Piece of Fruit, which combines a still life and a landscape to represent agriculture and hip hop/music culture, both nutrient providing and life giving. An additional series that I have is titled, The Written Word, which incorporates graffiti style letters in the
foreground of a scape. The work I submitted for this exhibition all represent some form of scapes, land, sea, dream or galactic.

Artist Biography

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and have been an artist my entire life, drawing dogs and super heroes, inspired by nature and comic books. I studied art at Southern University, which at the time had a strong art program. Along with the technical skills acquired, I learned the process of curating and coordinating art, which set me on a path of a artist/curator.After graduation from college, I moved back to California, married and had my two children and eventually moved to Atlanta, Georgia to work at the newly created Southwest Art Center as the Visual Arts Specialist and later Arts Education Coordinator in Visual Arts to build a visual arts program and lay the foundation for facility. I designed and implemented visual arts curriculum, projects and programs for nearly two decades, as well as coordinated countless exhibitions and teaching visual arts classes and workshops for
students ranging from 5 to senior adult. After leaving the Southwest Art Center, I worked as an independent curator coordinating exhibitions in the
states and abroad. After the pandemic, I started working as Executive Director at Arts Clayton Gallery for almost three years, where I coordinated a mural program, exhibitions, galas and festivals.
