Artist Statement

I am inspired by the rhythms and patterns found in nature. In my studio practice, I experimented with painting on pleated tissue paper. The resulting patterns fascinated me. Then, I realized they were more interesting if I painted on both sides. I began painting on translucent, Japanese-style paper and ended up with a series of
translucent, two-sided paintings that allude to patterns and rhythms found in nature, or in music. Instinct is part of human nature and if one listens and follows it, discoveries happen that lead us to new and interesting places.
This year, I completed a large, translucent, two-sided mixed media hanging of light and air, “Natural Associations,” which expresses how important perspective is, and how varied material from natural sources have a harmonious expression together.
